New stores, new restaurants, new jobs, at Destin Commons

New stores, new restaurants, and new jobs are opening up at Destin Commons. Retail giant H&M had its grand opening today. It's part of a major expansion that adds more than twenty new stores.

Laura Hussey "Look at this line. These are the people lined up for the grand opening of H&M at Destin Commons. The first one was here at 4 in the morning"

By the time the doors opened at noon, there was a dance party going on, and Josh Johnson had no regrets about getting up early.

Josh Johnson/Destin "I just love H&M clothing and this is the first town that I've lived in that actually has the store, so usually I just go to different places like Atlanta or New York and buy the clothing there"

Really there's no need to jet-set, with more than more than twenty new stores and restaurants on their way to the Commons.

Crews are working around the clock at Uncle Buck's Fish Bowl and Grill, so they can open by Tuesday. Uncle Buck's is a Bass Pro Shops concept that combines an underwater-themed bowling alley with a family restaurant. Destin Commons' general manager says giving families more things to do helps keep them coming to Destin.

Bob Perry/GM, Destin Commons "This is gonna be huge. The Bass Pro concept itself is a great draw for families, but this is just going to continue that and complement it, by being open until one or two in the morning and allowing them to have evening entertainment"

Uncle Buck's is hiring one-hundred eighty employees for their first few months. The new stores together are expected to create about five hundred jobs. At Charming Charlie, Emily Triplett will earn college money, and take some pressure off her mom.

Emily Triplett/Charming Charlie "Obviously I'm going to have to ask for her help at some point, but for right now this is just going to pay me for the next four years so that I can keep affording to try to put myself through school without burdening her any more"

Laura Hussey "Obviously H&M is now open. The official grand opening for the Destin Commons Expansion is July 3."
