Oyster harvesting

The daily oyster harvest in Apalachicola Bay is being drastically reduced this summer.

Apalachicola Bay is where about 90 % of Florida's oysters come from.
But the oyster population has significantly declined over the last few years.
Mostly because of a lack of fresh water.
To help the oysters replenish the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has made some "Temporary" changes.
They include lowering the daily commercial harvest and possession limit from 20 bags to eight bags.

And limiting the recreational harvest to five gallons of oysters in the shell.
The changes are effective now through August 31st.
