New Fl law overhauls child welfare system

A new bill expected to overhaul the child welfare system was signed into law today.

Governor Rick Scott signed the law after hundreds of child abuse related deaths happened in Florida in the past five years.
Almost 300 new child protective investigators will be hired to reduce caseloads.

And a response team will be created to quickly look into child abuse deaths when the child is known to have previous incidents with the system

Recently the Miami Herald reported 477 deaths involving children in the past five years.
Most of the children who died were younger than five.
