College football's first female defensive back
When you think of a college defensive football player you probably don't think about an 18 year old girl.
But Shelby Osbourne is just that.
She has just secured a spot as college football's first ever female defensive back at Campbellsville University in Kentucky.
Unlike several women who have joined NCAA teams as kickers, Osbourne is first to play what many consider the most physically demanding side of the field.
She only played one year of varsity but earned the respect of her teammates for her ability to shut her side of the field down and prevent touchdown passes.
Shelby Osborne "I wasn't going to let anyone talk me out of it. I know who I am. I know what I'm capable of."
Coach Lonnie Oldham, Osborne's high school football coach" She did all the physical stuff, she's taken some shots, but she always gets up."
Osbourne reports for her first official college workout on August 8th --and says she's ready to bring girl power to the gridiron.
