US beef recall

The US House is throwing its weight and pocketbook behind the federal investigation of a slaughterhouse in Petaluma, California.

The congressional action authorizes one-million dollars in extra funding to "provide for a swift completion" of the Department of Agriculture's probe.

Sources say that all contributed to the February recall of nearly nine million pounds of meat -- as well as a criminal investigation.
