Crestview Police Department raising funds for new K-9 Unit

After the Crestview Police Department's K-9 Unit was disbanded last year, police are asking local residents and businesses to help restore the unit.

They've started a fund drive to help raise $30,000 to buy two trained German Shepard police dogs.

The Crestview Police Department currently borrows a K-9 unit from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department, or the State Department of Corrections.

The borrowed units are not always available when the Crestview Police want to use them.

Last year, the two Crestview Police dogs, Rex and Edo, were forced into retirement because of health issues.

Rex passed away last month.
