TRACKING THE TROPICS

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean that may become another depression though chances are low.

La. Man Fights Gator; Gets away with 80 stiches

SULPHUR, La. -- An 11-foot alligator left Glen Bonin an unforgettable story to tell.

"I've always been the kind of guy to learn the hard way," Bonin said.

His latest lesson left 80 stitches in one hand..

"Hopefully with therapy I'll be able to straighten out my ring finger and pinky a little bit," he said.

Bonin can laugh about it now when watching the video of his encounter
with an 11 foot alligator on Prater Rd. just south of Sulphur.
He and two friends tried moving the gator out of the middle of the road.

"took our shirts off, threw it on his face," Bonin explained. "We were going to come from behind it and jump on it and in the process of doing that, it spun around and grabbed my hand seconds before we jumped on it.

The gator snaped back at Bonin, biting his hand and sending him into a daze.

"It felt like someone was pulling my arm out." Bonin said. "I thought I was about to lose something. it felt like it lasted forever. when it happened it was a split second, but it really wasn't. it felt like it lasted a long time. "

Bonin admits it was a bit of liquid courage that made him think he could move the gator but now he says it's clear liquid courage was no match for this beast....

"Call wildlife and fisheries, call the sheriff," he said.  "Call somebody, stay in your vehicles don't try to play with them or move them. leave it to the professionals that's what they say."
