VA Audit, Florida included Eglin AirForce Base

An internal audit by the Department of Veteran's Affairs found there are more than 8,500 new patients in Florida who have been waiting three months or longer for an appointment at a health facility.

The audit released Monday, also shows than 5,000 veterans who enrolled in VA Health Care over the past ten years have never had appointments.

Florida has six VA hospitals and a number of other clinics.

Four of them are now being investigated for manipulating appointment schedules to hide the long wait times.... including the VA outpatient clinic at Eglin Air Force Base.

Last week, Florida filed a lawsuit to conduct its own investigation of the state's VA facilities.

Federal workers blocked state officials from entering the facilities in the past, saying the state inspectors did not have jurisdiction.
