State planners put hold on adding a lane on Bayou Boulevard

A state roads safety project will likely be going in a different direction--
The Florida Department of Transportation planned on adding a second* left turn lane* on the south bound lanes of Bayou Boulevard

The addition would require tearing down two oak trees along Bayou to widen the road--
A spokesperson for the Transportation Department says the additional lane was meant to alleviate traffic and make the intersection safer.

However, at a meeting this morning, several people from the neighborhood urged against tearing down the trees to add more traffic lanes.

State planners have agreed to wait on an alternative plan from the local transportation planning organization.
