New artificial reefs nearby in Florida

Dozens of new artificial reefs will be placed off the coast of Wakulla and Franklin County.

Workers plan to deploy the reef by crane later this week. It will be put in about 10 miles off the coastline.

The cone-shaped structures will be placed in 60 feet of water along the coast of the two counties where the sea floor is mostly sand. The reefs were funded through a grant from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission grant and will add to the south end of Carrabelle's existing 10-mile reef system.
