Pensacola listed in top ten dangerous cities to live
Pensacola is listed as one of the top ten most dangerous small cities to live in.
This study is based on the FBI's 2012 uniform crime report and published on the real estate website, Movoto.
Researchers took statistics from seven different types of crimes.
200 cities were ranked on the number of incidents in each category, per 100,000 residents per year.
This list here has Pensacola at number six for one of the top most dangerous small cities to live in. So, we hit the streets to ask locals what they think,
Thad Burkhalter said, "What do you think about Pensacola being ranked number six on the list." "I think that's crazy. We've never experienced anything but, just an awesome city."
Will Neuner said, "I would've never thought that in my life."
According to the list Pensacola is actually the most dangerous of the smaller cities in Florida.
When it comes to murder.
In 2012 we had 13 homicides in the metro area per 100,000 residents.
Thad Burkhalter was shocked to hear where we ranked.
He's lived here for nearly 4 years.
"Pensacola is definitely a safer feeling than in Memphis."
Captain David Alexander with the Pensacola Police Department says the numbers used in the report are old and crime in Pensacola is down nearly 14%.
"I would just hope that people take the time and do a little research and they'll find out this is not an accurate reflection of the City of Pensacola and it is a safe place to live."
Pensacola isn't a stranger to top ten lists.
All researchers use different data.
Will Neuner told us, "We've made top ten downtown street in America and top ten greatest places to live. I actually brag a lot to my friends."
But others agree with this report.
Christina Washington said, "I'm ready to move now because it's not safe."
Christina Washington's best friend Kenteyonna Anderson was shot and killed last year playing in her neighborhood.
Christina says she's had a different outlook since.
"You took her life over something stupid and petty and it's very hard to deal with still."
