Gov. Scott Expands State's School Voucher Program

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Governor Rick Scott signed a bill that expands the state's existing voucher program Friday.

The current program is limited to low income families but the new law would let middle-income families apply to receive vouchers.

They can start receiving vouchers in 2016.

It would also make it easier for low-income families to transfer to the program.

The 300-million dollar program currently serves nearly 6-thousand families.

Scott's action would trigger a lawsuit from the state's teacher union.  Some members claim the voucher expansion comes at the expense of public schools
