Tourist Development Council rejects funding request for Okaloosa bed tax

The Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council has rejected the sheriff's request for for 350,000 dollars in Bed Taxes.

The money would have paid for extra beach and marine patrol units during the summer.

Sheriff Larry Ashley says the demand for law enforcement rises when tourists are in town.
   
During peak tourist periods, Ashley says calls for service go up 1100 % in some categories.
