New military housing project breaks ground

Ground has been broken for a new military housing area on Hurlburt Field.

"Osprey Landing" will be a neighborhood of about four-hundred homes, plus a large community center. It will be built on the south side of Highway 98. Some of the homes will have views of the Santa Rosa Sound. They're being built by a private company, in a fifty-year partnership with the air force to improve base housing.

Stan Morehead/Corvais program manager "Being able to come in, start a new program, the excitement, the passion that our team has and not only that but the excitement you see in the military community as they see their lives changing and improving"
Over the next five years, most of the homes currently on base will be demolished. An Air Force spokesman says the whole community will benefit from jobs created by the fifty-million dollar redevelopment.
