Increase of Commercial burglaries reported in Pensacola

ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- More commercial burglaries are being reported in the City of Pensacola.
Pensacola Police say from May 1st through June 27 commercial burglaries have been reported.

That's up from 11 reported commercial burglaries in 2013 during the same time period.

There were 6 commercial burglaries in 2012, and just 2 reported in 2011.  All reported incidents ranged from the beginning in May through the end of June.

Nearly two dozen commercial burglaries within two months can be an alarming number for some business owners.

Pensacola Police say the crimes happen for various reasons ranging from employee thefts to break-ins.

Martin Coe owns Pensacola Hardware.
He feels lucky considering his store hasn't been targeted in 30 years.

He has several security measures in place that have helped him along the way.  Including installing a tall fence with barbed wired and covering some of the windows with burglar bars.

"Just remember we're all in this together, and you need to watch out for your neighbors and your neighbors need to watch out for you and I think that will help out a lot" said Martin Coe, Pensacola Hardware.

At Blue Morning Gallery, artists display their most prized possessions worth hundreds of dollars or more.
With so much at stake no wonder Melinda Giron makes sure the security system is in tip-top shape.

"We're pretty secure here, we've got an alarm system and cameras" said Melinda Giron, Blue Morning Gallery Artist.

Police urge people, if they see anything suspicious to give them a call.
