Sneak peak into the world of the 7th Special Forces Group
Their mission is unconventional warfare, and they're gone a lot more than they're home. Today members of the 7th Special Forces Group gave the public a look inside their world.
Laura Hussey "A lot of us grow up being able to visit Mom and Dad at the office. For children of the 7th Special Forces Group, this Community Day is a chance to see some of what their moms and dads do at work"
The setting is a bit more comfortable than their usual workplace. When they drop in from thousands of feet in the air, people clap when they land. When they bring out the dogs to sniff for danger, they're only ambushed by toddlers and tweens.
MSG Todd Yule "It's probably the most important thing a soldier can do whenever they deploy....get back with their loved ones, reunite with friends and family"
Red Empire Week is a chance for 7th Group soldiers to spend time with family, and for families to share strength and pride.
Rachel Yule/soldier's daughter "It's not just one individual person. It's a whole group of people, standing together, doing what's right and just making everybody feel safe"
This community day was open to the public. Soldiers offered a look at the tools of their trade.
Laura Hussey "You hear so much about UAVs, I wanted to show you this one here on display. It's called the Shadow. The camera is right here in the middle, it gives them images in almost real time, less than a second delay. They can have the whole rig set up, from the ground up in three hours, and when it takes off at 80 miles per hour up the ramp, it's off in two seconds"
Watching their dad jump with the Paracommandos, Rachel and Alexis Yule are proud they grew up in Special Forces.
Alexis Yule/soldier's daughter "He was gone through a lot of things....barbeques, 4th of July, Christmases, birthdays. It was hard, but mainly the feeling when they come back, it's really nice"
