Weather Alert

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the Atlantic Ocean that may become another depression though chances are low.

Hundreds of technical jobs coming to Pensacola

Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Downtown Pensacola.

That's because of a new project at the port. Offshore inland and deep flex companies have announced plan to build a new manufacturing and testing facility on undeveloped property at the port. A new type of unbonded flexible pipe will be created at the facility. It will be used for deep water projects.

That means up to 200 highly skilled and high paying jobs, in areas like engineering, technical support and research and development.

"Literally, workers who live right in Downtown Pensacola can ride their bicycles to a manufacturing job at the port that averages $60,000."

The manufacturing facility is expected to break ground within the next 30 days. And be fully operational by the second half of 2015.
