Local fire department makes final in Good Morning America contest

Firefighters from Gulf Shores Fire Rescue have arrived in the big apple.

They are appearing on "Good Morning America" this morning because they have made the finals in the "5 Alarm Firefighter Challenge."

Bringing in more than 37,000 votes in the semi-finals, the Gulf Shores Fire Rescue has earned a spot among five other fire departments from across the United States.

The fire department made a video of them lip-synching and dancing to the Capital Cities song "Safe and Sound."

In the next stage of the competition, 3 Gulf Shores firefighters will go up against members of the Tacoma Fire Department in Washington and the McAllen Fire Department in Texas.

Firefighters will compete in physical and knowledge-based competitions live on the show and they could also be scored on their cooking skills. Each department will earn points with the highest scorer bring home the $10,000 prize money.

Representing Gulf Shores Fire Rescue will be Lt. Robert Rowland, fire-medic Nick Anagnostopoulos and firefighter/EMT Logan Lambert.
