Superintendent of the Escambia County School District, Malcolm Thomas,
has decided to recommend to the School Board a calendar change that will cancel
all late start days for the 2014-2015 school year. The School Board will be asked to vote on
this request during their meeting on September 10, 2014.
“We always try to pay attention to the impact our decisions
have on our students’ families. This decision is being made to avoid
significant hardships the two hour delay would create for our working
families,” Thomas explained.
“So in the best interest of our students’ safety and our
desire to serve our families, we will find an alternate method to deliver the
professional training opportunities we had planned for those mornings.”
The late start dates would have been September 17, November
5, and December 3, 2014. Pending School Board approval, all schools will begin
at their regular start times on those days.
