Stay or go: when to evacuate

One of the big questions before a hurricane is whether to evacuate. It's a decision you should consider before a storm develops.

Your county leaders have identified coastal evacuation zones, the areas at greatest risk of dangerous storm surge and catastrophic damage.

If you live in one of those zones, plan to leave.

If you live in a mobile home or if you have any doubts that your home could survive, take shelter elsewhere.

If someone in your home has special needs, especially where a long term power outage could cause harm, consider evacuating.

The choice to stay or go is yours.

Strongly consider the risks of your particular situation as you make that decision.
