Tropical storm or depression could form over Caribbean

National Hurricane Forecasters are closely watching a strong tropical wave situated over the west-central Caribbean Sea.

The large area of showers and thunderstorms is moving west-northwestward at 10-15 m.p.h. A tropical depression or tropical storm could form over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

The chance for formation through 48 hours is 60%, through five days there is an 80% for formation.

The Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft that had been scheduled for Monday has been canceled. There is a second area of low pressure located between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles.

Slow development is possible, 30% through 48 hours, 50% through five days.
