The family tells NBC 15 they will cherish the 15 years that they had with him and he will always be in their hearts.

An innocent life taken at just 15 years old.

"He will be greatly missed," says Courtney Smith.

Loved ones say Jakorian Smith had the biggest heart.

He loved his mother, his stepfather, his father, his sibling, his family, his grandmother, grandfather and he loved the holidays. He really enjoyed the holidays because he was always excited to see what he would get," says Courtney.

Instead of opening those gifts this Christmas is heartbreakingly different.

"He is not here with us this Christmas, but he will always be with me in spirit and he was loved," says Courtney.

Smith also longed to serve his country.

"His dreams were to go into the military. God knows he loved his family," says Courtney.

Investigators quickly arrested 30-year-old Rory Smith and 25-year-old India Nelson for the deadly shooting, but the crimes are something Courtney Smith says the family has to cope with forever and they want others to think before picking up a gun.

"Instead of lighting fire put down the guns. End the gun violence. You guys need to learn to love one another. There are so many grieving mothers, fathers, friends that are going to the cemetery for nothing. Our family is one of them going for nothing," she says.

They're asking for continued prayers.

"Thank you guys for your prayers during this time of bereavement," says Smith.

Jakorian's funeral service will be this Saturday at Heritage and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
