An Ohio manufacturing company is recalling over one million countertop garbage disposal switches after numerous reports that they pose a fire risk to consumers.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, InSinkErator Single Outlet SinkTop Switches are air-activated switches that mount to the sinks and countertops as an alternative to the traditional wall switch for a garbage disposal.

The recall states that InSinkErator received 40 reports of water causing overheating damage to the power module and outlet beneath the sink, posing a fire hazard.

About 1,400,000 units with the model numbers 76703, STS-SOSN, 78251 and 74300 are affected, according to the recall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled switches and contact InSinkErator for a free SinkTop switch replacement.

The switches were sold with a chrome, white, or satin nickel button/bezel as an accessory for garbage disposals. Garbage disposals activated by a wall switch are not affected by this recall.

No injuries have been reported in relation to the recall at this time. If you want to report an incident, you can do so HERE.
