2 dead after overnight collision; Cantonment man charged with DUI manslaughter
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
Two people are dead and a Cantonment man has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter following an overnight collision in Escambia County.
It happened on East Kingsfield Road near Kingslake Drive around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.
According to a report from Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), both vehicles were traveling from opposite directions.
FHP said 24-year-old Hunter Russell Black, traveling west, began to travel into the eastbound lane.
The oncoming driver, 22-year-old Antoinette Marie McCoy, noticed Black enter her lane and tried to “perform an evasive maneuver” to avoid a collision.
The front right of Black’s Chevy Malibu struck the front right of McCoy’s vehicle. The impact caused McCoy’s vehicle to overturn and land in a ditch.
Escambia County Fire Rescue had to pull McCoy and a passenger, 15-year-old Sean Alexander Banks, from the overturned vehicle.
McCoy was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment. Banks was airlifted to Baptist Hospital for treatment, according to FHP.
The two succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the hospitals, FHP said.
Black suffered minor injuries from the collision. He's being held in the Escambia County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
