Alabama correctional officer attacked by inmate
SPRINGVILLE, Ala. (WEAR) —
The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) is investigating an attack on a correctional officer that occurred at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville on Wednesday.
Officials with the correctional facility said that at around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27th an officer was escorting Daryl Rowell, 27, to a housing area inside the prison when Rowell attacked the officer with a makeshift weapon.
The correctional officer was cut in the assault and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
Rowell is serving a life-without-parole sentence on a 2016 murder conviction in Macon County.
The ADOC is investigating the incident and will charge Rowell with the assault.
