Bases, businesses close ahead of cold weather

Weather shuts down Escambia County military bases

Naval Air Station Pensacola (NASP), Corry Station, and Saufley Field will curtail normal operations and close the installations to all visitors and non-essential personnel at 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 16th. All facilities on board the base, including Child Development Center, Youth Center, and tourist attractions, e.g., National Naval Aviation Museum, Lighthouse, Ft Barrancas, etc. will be closed.

Naval Air Station Whiting Field will go to mission essential personnel starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday until Wednesday at noon. Base leadership will re-evaluate the weather conditions Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Pending significant changes in weather forecast, the base and all facilities will reopen and resume normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 18th.

  • Offices listed below are closed Wednesday, January 17 in anticipation of hazardous road conditions. All employees who deliver essential services with 24-hour missions should report to work as scheduled. Questions should be directed to the employee's direct supervisor.

  • Escambia County Area Transit administrative offices, ECAT bus and trolley service

  • ECUA business offices will open on Wednesday at 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. ECUA has canceled solid waste collections scheduled for Wednesday and instead made these collections on Thursday. Collections scheduled for Thursday and Friday will also be delayed by one day, to Friday and Saturday.
  • Nemours Children's Specialty Care will close Wednesday. They say any patients with surgeries scheduled for Wednesday should contact the location where the surgery will take place to find out if it's still happening.


The following offices will be closed Wednesday due to inclement weather and anticipated dangerous road conditions. All offices are anticipated to reopen Thursday for normal operating hours.

  • Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter (including the animal shelter night box)
  • Central Landfill (trash collections will not take place on Wed., Jan. 17. Waste Pro will collect Wednesday's routes on Thursday, ECUA's routes are not affected on Wednesday.Thursday's routes on Friday and Friday's routes on Saturday.   • First Judicial Circuit Court, Santa Rosa County - First appearances on Jan. 17 will be conducted at the Santa Rosa County Jail at 9 a.m. Judge Rimmer's docket day has been rescheduled to Thurs., Jan.18.

Courts in Escambia, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties will be closed Wednesday, January 17, due to inclement weather conditions.

At present, courts in Okaloosa County will be OPEN. Court administration is closely monitoring the situation and any changes will be announced as soon as possible. Please follow the First Circuit at or @1stCircuitFL.

All Okaloosa County Tax Collector offices will be closed Wednesday and re-open on Thursday.

Baldwin County

All BRATS Routes have been canceled for Wednesday, Jan 17, 2018, due to impending inclement weather. County Staff will be available tomorrow to take calls for future BRATS scheduling needs.
