An alligator 12 feet 3 inches in length, according to B.J. Etscheid of Pensacola, was caught on opening night of gator season in Walton County, Florida.

B.J. says he and Scott Bradley were with legendary alligator captain Tim Land when they spotted and snagged the giant. The gator was brought to Day Break Marina in Pensacola where it was measured and cleaned.

The catch was made in Walton County on Choctawhatchee Bay around midnight as the gator season opened.

Etscheid says it took about an hour to control the 360 pound gator and get it on board.

“It’s going to make for a big rug and a big cookout.” B.J. said.
