Blood, red blood cells and platelets are being moved from Tallahassee to Pensacola
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WEAR) —
Boxes of blood are being moved from Tallahassee Memorial to OneBlood facility in Pensacola.
The boxes of blood, red blood cells and platelets are leaving Tallahassee Memorial by helicopter and will make the flight to Pensacola International Airport.
These units of blood are being moved to Pensacola, the first of possibly many more, because OneBlood’s Tallahassee blood distribution hub is shut down from damage.
The blood will be taken by couriers from Pensacola International Airport to the main OneBlood facility on 9 Mile Road in Pensacola.
This location is serving as a “backup” distribution center while recovery happens in the Tallahassee area. Blood will then be distributed to hospitals in the service area, which includes all of the panhandle, and into South Georgia.
