Businessmen linked to Escambia County schools charged
Two Ohio businessmen connected with charter schools in Escambia County are charged with racketeering and organized fraud.
Marcus May owns Newpoint Education Partners, a company that ran charter schools in Pensacola and throughout Florida.
According to the court documents, Newpoint bought equipment and supplies from other companies that May owned at incredible markups.
May's associate, Steven, Kunkemoeller, ran other vendors that, according to investigators, only existed to service Newpoint schools.
The State Attorney's Office says the two men obtained more than $1 million of public money through their schemes.
