Cervantes Street safety: Funding to address needs on the way
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
Funding is on the way for a roadway plagued with problems.
Escambia County Commissioner Lumon May tells WEAR both the city and the county have pledged $1 million to fix the dangerous Cervantes Street corridor.
Six million dollars is needed to address all the needs, including widening the road and adding lighting.
May says State Sen. Doug Broxson and the Transportation Planning Organization will help fill in the gaps for funding.
A study was already in the works before two people, including an eight-month-old child, were killed while walking in the area.
May says the road is expected to be completed by 2020 or 2021.
