Crews respond to two wildfires on Garcon Point
The Florida Forest Service's Blackwater Forestry Center is responding to two separate wildfires off of Avalon Boulevard on Garcon Point south of Milton.
Officials said one of the fires is now 45 percent contained and estimated to be at least 98 acres. Crews are making progress on getting the fire contained and are working on burning out sections of forest to help secure it.
Blackwater Forestry Center said an estimated 50 homes were initially threatened. Officials added no homes were damaged, but some privacy fences were.
There is also a holding pond fire at Garcon Point that is 50 acres. One tractor-plow unit is working that fire and is "roughly 75 percent contained."
Rain expected to head into our area later Saturday evening are expected to help the situation on both fires.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
