Crews work for hours to knock down massive fire in Walton County

Fire crews in Walton County worked for nearly seven hours to a knock down a massive structure fire in Ponce de Leon Thursday evening.

According to a Walton County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) press release, Walton County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a residential fire at the 100 block of Rushing Road just after 5:00 p.m.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived within minutes to the two-story home, which was engulfed in flames, the release states.

According to the release, crews tried to attack the fire from inside the house but had to withdraw due to the size of the flames and the possibility that the structure could have collapsed.

Details of the release state that Walton County Fire Rescue firefighters battled the fire for over 60 minutes before it was contained, and it took them hours to completely extinguish the flames.

The scene was finally cleared just after 12:00 a.m. Friday, according to the press release.

Argyle Volunteer firefighters also helped in the fight.

According to the WCSO press release, there were no residents in the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported on the scene.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross was called out to assist the residents of the disintegrated home.
