Driver of stolen car in custody; lockdown lifted for Santa Rosa County schools

    Two schools were placed on lockdown early Tuesday morning in Santa Rosa County as deputies searched for a wanted person.

    According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Sims Middle School and Dixon Intermediate School were on lockdown. Outdoor activities at Pace High School and Dixon Primary were canceled.

    The sheriff's office said the driver of a stolen car has been taken into custody.

    The sheriff’s office said the stolen vehicle was seen driving in the area of Pace Patriot Boulevard and Norris Road Monday morning. Deputies say the driver ran away on foot.

    Santa Rosa Sheriff’s deputies, school resource officers, and an FWC helicopter assited in the search for the suspect.
