ECSO: 13-year-old arrested at New Year's Eve party stole gun from mom
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
A 13-year-old arrested New Year's Eve for allegedly bringing a firearm into Dreamland Skate Center stole the gun from his mother, according to an incident report.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, an off-duty deputy working the event found a loaded Highpoint 9 mm handgun on 13-year-old Jadarrius Crosby.
The report said Crosby was placed in handcuffs and taken to the front of the skating rink quietly "as I did not want to alarm any of the kids in the rink as to what was going on" the deputy wrote.
Crosby was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle and the deputy reported finding two clear bags with a crystallized substance inside. Crosby told the deputy what was in the bags "wasn't even real" and a field test came back with negative results for any type of illegal narcotics.
Crosby's mother was called to Dreamland where she told deputies Crosby must have taken her handgun from her nightstand without her permission.
The report said Crosby was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, but was not charged for taking his mother's firearm. He was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
