The Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) captured a felony suspect wanted for escape. Nicholas Dale Colbert, 29, was taken into custody Thursday in West Pensacola.

ECSO Public Information Officer (PIO) Major Andrew Hobbs told Channel 3 that deputies initiated a traffic stop on Colbert because he had a felony warrant.

According to ECSO spokesperson Amber Southard, he failed to stop and fled from deputies, hitting a mailbox and another vehicle before jumping out of the vehicle and running into a residential neighborhood.

ECSO deputies set up a perimeter in the area of Muldoon Road and La Ventana Drive to search for the suspect.

Channel 3 News was the only news outlet on the scene as Colbert was apprehended and taken into custody by deputies.

Colbert is charged with felony escape, burglary, fleeing/eluding police, and misdemeanor reckless driving and driving without a license. He was transported to the Escambia County Jail where he is being held without bond.

ECSO and the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the case.
