Escambia County man headed to prison for forged checks

An Escambia County man is headed to prison for trying to pass forged checks.

Elam Harris III was released from prison in 2017.

He violated his probation in February of 2017 when he did not report to his probation officer and tested positive for cocaine.

Harris was also charged with six counts of grand theft and six counts of uttering forged instruments.

He was caught on bank cameras while attempting to cash counterfiet checks.

Harris was sentenced to 16 years in prison with a credit of seven years.

He will serve the remaining nine years in state prison.
