ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is investigating who shot and killed a man on Emerald Avenue.

The shooting happened just before 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Investigators spent several hours at the scene Saturday trying to find out who pulled the trigger and why.

WEAR News spoke to the victim's sister -- she's calling for the shooter to turn themself in.

Concerned residents and the family of the victim, identified as 38-year-old Jarvis Johnson, gathered in the Oak Crest neighborhood, as deputies and K-9s combed for clues.

Kalandria Johnson is his older sister.

"This shouldn't have happened to him at all, he was in his own comfort zone, minding his own business and you know this happened to him," Kalandria said.

Kalandria said her brother was visiting someone in the neighborhood and he was sitting outside of a house when he was suddenly shot -- by an unknown suspect.

She told WEAR News her brother was a father of three, who had a heart for helping kids in the community.

"Just trying to speak a positive word and direct the youth he was able to touch to do something great with your life," Kalandria said.

News of Jarvis’ death was a big shock to his uncle, Rodney Lindsey, who WEAR News also spoke to Saturday.

"Wondering what could've been, wondering did it have to be this way," Lindsey said.

Kalandria is heartbroken over the loss of her baby brother, friend, and someone who always protected her.

“You know I'm feeling very down because I wasn't able to protect him as his big sister," Kalandria said.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone with information on the shooting to give them a call.
