Fatal collision in Shalimar claims two lives

A fatal car crash has claimed the lives of two Shalimar senior citizens.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Samuel L. Pate, 86, and Lavina Ruth Pate, 86, both of Shalimar, were traveling north on North Poquito Road on Friday, Oct. 13th, at 6:10 p.m. Their vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of North Poquito Road and State Road 189 (Lewis Turner Blvd.). As they started to continue traveling north, a second vehicle traveling eastbound on State Road 189, driven by Sunisa Terod, 49, of Fort Walton Beach, collided with the left side of their car.

Both Samuel Pate and Lavina Pate were transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, but died of injuries they sustained as a result of the crash. Terod suffered minor injuries.

No charges are being filed at this time. FHP is investigating this incident.
