Flomaton will remain dry on Sundays after councilman votes no to selling alcohol
FLOMATON, Ala. (WEAR) —
On Sundays, you can take a step across state lines from Flomaton to Century and buy alcohol.
For now, Flomaton remains dry on Sundays.
The city’s mayor, Dewey Bondurant Jr., asked the city council to vote on a resolution last week. He asked the state to allow Sunday alcohol sales in Flomaton.
While five out of six councilmembers said yes, Councilman Roger Adkinson said he couldn’t turn his back on his Christina values.
Mayor Bondurant says while he understands Adkinson’s convictions, state representatives don’t.
“Our representative told us they have a rule, they don’t get between council. Well the councilman went to them and said the reason I voted this was religion,” Bondurant said.
That unwritten rule means if the vote is not unanimous it will be a hard pass on a state level.
It could be a while before Flomaton will see Sunday alcohol sales.
