Fort Walton Beach woman accused of stealing $1,000 from victim's purse
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) —
A Fort Walton Beach woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing a woman's purse out of her shopping cart.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the Walmart on Beal Parkway Wednesday after the victim reported her purse had been stolen.
A customer service representative said a brown purse had been found inside the restroom and the victim identified the purse as hers. She said she was missing more than $1,000 in cash.
Deputies said video surveillance footage revealed that while the victim was looking at something, another woman walked up, took her purse, and made her way to the restroom.
The sheriff's office said the suspect, 33-year-old April Griffin, was seen leaving the store without the purse. Deputies were able to identify Griffin as the suspect and found her at a gas station on Racetrack Road where she was taken into custody.
Griffin has been charged with grand theft.
