In the midst of the current social climate, a Freeport songwriter is striking a powerful chord, sharing the message, "Love Wins" in a new song that has now gone viral.

Channel 3 News sat down with songwriter Tim Jackson over video chat on Sunday to learn more about what inspired the song, "I Sang Hallelujah."

"I actually didn't want to write this song," Jackson said. "I had made a conscious decision not to write any songs about the current social clime because I just really didn't want to say the wrong thing."

Jackson tells us that all changed after he was overcome with emotion hearing about his 12-year-old grandson attending a peaceful protest in Tallahassee.

"I could see my grandson responding to that and I just had to get in my car and drive to my studio," Jackson said. "I promise you, within 10 minutes the song was written."

Jackson now hopes his song will give people a voice to speak about racial injustice.

"Two people have said to me that they've wanted to talk to their family about this, but every time we've sat down, we've come to a dead end," Jackson said. "They told me they played my song and it opened up conversation with their children and family. That's so wonderful to me as a songwriter. That's 10 Grammys as far as I'm concerned."

Jackson recorded the song with his friend Ike Bartley, a singer from Santa Rosa Beach.

"We've worked together since the 90's," Jackson said. "I'm so grateful that he trusted me with this song and was able to deliver this message with me."

In the video, Bartley and Jackson are seen sitting together on the side of the road watching as Jackson's grandson holds a sign by the street.

"I asked my grandson to write whatever he wanted on the poster board before we started shooting and he's the one who wrote 'Love Wins' with a peace sign," Jackson said. "So I really pray that will resonate with people."

The music video, produced by First Note Entertainment, now has over 200K views on social media in just over 2 weeks.
