Lifeguards leaving

The lifeguard towers at Pensacola Beach will be packed up for winter.

This is the last weekend lifeguards will be manning the lifeguard towers at Pensacola Beach.

WEAR-TV reports that since March 1st, lifeguards have performed 63 rescues from drowning and they've helped more than 200 swimmers in minor distress.

Winter schedules go into effect starting Monday.

Pensacola Beach Water Safety Chief Dave Greenwood says, "The towers will be removed from the beach Monday. We will go into our out of season operations. At a minimum, two lifeguards will be on duty seven days a week."
