Destin FWB Airport officials are making a big announcement to residents in Okaloosa County.

New upgrades are coming to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS).

On Monday the Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners held a meeting informing the public that a new intrastate flight and infrastructure upgrades will be coming to the airport.

A Silver Airways spokesperson announced during the meeting that their airline will start flying into the Destin-Fort Walton Airport.

Silver Airways will provide daily non-stop service from the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) to Orlando International Airport (MCO) beginning on May 17, 2019.

The airline stated they have interline ticketing partnerships with United, American, and Delta Airlines.

Carolyn Ketchel, Okaloosa County Commissioner said "We no longer have to go north to go south. The one request I’ve received over and over again from our local citizens is a flight to Central Florida, and now we have it!"

Allegiant and VPS worked on the terms of agreement to invest $7 million for a new concord at the airport.

The design planning will begin in May if the county commissioners approve of the agreement.

If you would like to catch a flight deal with Silver Airways, tickets will go on sale starting February 19.
