PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) — Collier Merrill owns several businesses in the Pensacola area, like the Fish House and Atlas. When President Trump's changes came into play, so did a change to his employee's paychecks. This came as a surprise.
"It’s immediate benefits and it's happening today. I was surprised the tables came out as quick as they did because we thought it was going to be February," said Merrill.
Merrill said they've already received the new tax brackets and updated the amount withheld from paychecks for income tax.
Now a single person making $39,000 a year will pay 12 percent back to the government. It used to be 15 percent. Merrill told Channel 3’s Lauren Wolfe that's about $20 to $30 bucks back in your pocket every pay day.
"As soon as we did, the accounts were immediately changed in everybody's pay system. All 300 - almost 400 employees. And they've got that benefit as of today," said Merrill.
Employers have until February 15th to create the new bracket.
