Man charged with attacking two Milton residents with an axe

A Panama City man is facing a felony aggravated assault charge after allegedly attacking a Milton man and woman with an axe.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12th, a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office (SRCSO) deputies responded to the intersection of Sherman St and Sunray St in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival, two subjects, James Isom and Christine Cole, told deputies they were at an abandoned church on Sunray St. in an attempt to get a stolen Christmas present back from a friend later identified as Kenneth Lamar Jones, 38, of Panama City.

According to the SRCSO arrest report, Cole advised deputies she had her eight-month-old grandson with them.

Cole stated that when Isom asked Jones for the present back, Jones came after them with an axe.

Isom old SRCSO deputies that he managed to get back into his vehicle and began to drive away, at which time Jones swung the axe at the vehicle, lodging it into the driver's side quarter panel of the vehicle.

Isom then drove to the intersection of Sunray St and Sherman St to wait for police.

After speaking with the victims, the responding deputies drove to the abandoned church in an attempt to speak to Jones but were unable to locate him.

Deputies were able to locate Jones on Thursday, Dec. 14th at a Tom Thumb gas station on Avalon Blvd in Pace.

Jones was arrested and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail.
