Man charged with stealing over $13,000 from elderly victim

A Pensacola man is facing exploitation charges after allegedly using stolen money from an elderly victim to go on vacations.

Pensacola police say that 44-year-old Steven McAroy gained the victim's trust while the victim was living in a long-term care facility and allowed McAroy to sign financial documents.

An investigation revealed that in 2015 McAroy used more than $13,000 of the victim's money in Baton Rouge, La., and Las Vegas over a five-month period.

McAroy faces one count of second-degree felony exploitation of the elderly and faces 15 years in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted.
