One shot in shootout near Fricker Community Center
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) —
At least one person is shot following a shootout near the Fricker Community Center.
Pensacola Police Department told Channel 3 News two vehicles were traveling on E Street.
When the two vehicles turned onto Strong Street, they began exchanging gunfire around 7:45 p.m.
One man on the basketball court at the Fricker Community Center was shot, police said.
Witnesses calling into the Channel 3 Newsroom said at least 40 to 50 shots were heard.
Officer Mike Wood told Channel 3 News once the two vehicles began shooting at each other a person standing at the corner of E and Strong began shooting at the two vehicles involved in a shootout.
Wood said at least 50 shell casings wereon the roadway so Strong was shut down between F and E Streets for more than an hour.
The Fricker Center property was not involved, Wood said.
Officer Mike Wood added that one man was shot in the shoulder and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, not EMS, with non-life threatening injuries.
Officers recovered a gun at the scene and they are running a serial number.
Channel 3 News has a team heading to the scene and will update this story as details become available.
There are a total of three shooters.
No arrests have been made.
