DESTIN, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) expects to reopen the Mid-Bay Bridge in Okaloosa County the evening of Wednesday, January 16th.
Crews are working around the clock to evaluate corrosion found in the structure and make temporary repairs. Officials warn the date and time of reopening is subject to change.
When the bridge reopens, traffic will be limited to two-axle cars and trucks and some emergency response vehicles.
Semi trucks and commercial vehicles will be required to use alternate routes until permanent repairs are completed.
Variable message boards will be placed at both ends of the bridge to alert drivers about the temporary restrictions.
The bridge closed to traffic Tuesday, forcing thousands of drivers to find an alternate route.
