Miracle League:'Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball'
GULF BREEZE, FLA. (WEAR-TV) —
A groundbreaking ceremony took place Thursday for an athletic field specifically designed for children with cognitive and physical challenges.
The Miracle League of Santa Rosa County a National 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing children and adults with disabilities, regardless of their ability, the opportunity to play baseball.
Each player dresses in an official uniform, makes plays in the field, and rounds the bases just like their peers.
The program provides players the following opportunities to its players.
- Each Player gets to bat in each inning.
- Each Player circles the bases and scores each inning.
- Each game ends in a tie.
According to Miracle League of Santa Rosa County, "Miracle League is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities while educating the public and promoting a greater understanding of matters concerning individuals with disabilities.”
The ceremony was held on Thursday morning at Tiger Point Park in Gulf Breeze.
The Miracle League of Santa Rosa County along with the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners are spear-heading the project.
The athletic field will located at 1385 Tiger Lake Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2019.
