Mobile County Sheriff's Lieutenant arrested for rape already out on bond
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
A Mobile County Sheriff's Lieutenant, accused of raping 2 young girls, is out on bond this morning.
He was indicted on charges of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, and he bonded out just two hours after being arrested.
We're told a grand jury pre-set bond amounts for each rape sodomy and sexual assault charge Lt. Paul Bailey is facing.
So he knew going into this arrest about the $127,000 bond amount and that's how he got out so quickly.
But there are conditions, he's being electronically monitored plus he can't have contact with the two victims.
This case all started with information brought straight to prosecutors at the District Attorney's office who then contacted the State Bureau of Investigation and the sheriff.
Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich says Lt. Paul Bailey attacked two girls.
She sent us these indicments that paint a grusome picture of why Lt. Paul Bailey's cuffed and charged.
The documents spell out the sad details of two teenage girls forced to engage in sexual activity. The victims are between 12 and 16 years old.
Mobile County Sheriff, Sam Cochran released this statement, "We are continuing to work with SBI on this investigation and will begin our disciplinary procedures immediately."
Lt. Bailey has been with Mobile Sheriff's office since 2002. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant just last year.
We are told the sheriff's office has launched an immedate internal investigation into Bailey that could be followed by possible disciplinary action in a matter of days.
